Santa Teresa, the Montmartre of Rio de Janeiro, is the city’s most well-preserved and artistic district with many mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. Architecture in Santa Teresa is predominantly colonial and neo-classical, edging towards Art Deco, enriched with history, art museums, artist ateliers and many cultural activities. Home to ambassadors and the elite, this charming and sophisticated district offers visitors a glimpse of an authentic and unique Rio.
Only 150 meters from the Hotel, the major touristic and bohemian spots are found at the Largo dos Guimarães. The tramway of Santa Teresa, today the only remaining one in the city, has been considered a symbol of the district since 1862. The tram departs from Santa Teresa, passing through the famous arches of Lapa and to the city center.
Santa Teresa offers fast and direct access to the business districts of the city, such as the financial center, Avenida Rio Branco, Botafogo Beach, Rio Convention Center, Gloria Marina and Santos Dumont Airport. It is also conveniently close to tourism attractions such as Christ the Redeemer Statue, Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches, as well as Lapa, with the city’s best bars and restaurants.
